Work/Food & Beverage/Printables

Design that has to work from across the room.

A post gets three seconds of attention held six inches from a face. A standee gets one second from six feet away, while someone is walking past. I design the standees, posters, table tents and in-store collateral that have to land in that one second.

The overview.

Social gets a brand noticed. Print is what greets people once they arrive, and it is the part most restaurants leave to whoever happens to have a laptop that afternoon. The result is a beautiful feed and a laminated A4 taped to the door.

I design the physical layer of the brand: the standee at the entrance, the table tent that sells the dessert, the roll-up at the event, the poster announcing a new outlet. Same visual language as the feed, different rules of engagement.

The challenge

Six feet away. One second. Moving.

Print has no algorithm and no second impression. Someone walks past a standee once, at an angle, while talking to a friend. If the offer isn't legible in that moment, the print run was money spent on a decorative object. And unlike a post, a mistake can't be edited after it's been printed two hundred times.

The approach

One message per surface.

Every piece gets a single job: the offer, the launch, the dessert, the event. The main message is sized to be read at walking distance, the supporting detail sits below eye level for whoever stops. I design at final size rather than scaling up later, keep critical content well inside the trim, and check every layout as a thumbnail, because if it survives being tiny it will definitely survive being large.

The work.

Grouped by format, because that's how a restaurant orders it.

How it holds together

Three rules behind every printed piece.

/ 01

One message per surface

A standee that says four things says nothing. Each piece carries a single idea, sized so it can be read while walking past, with the detail underneath for whoever stops.

/ 02

Designed at final size

A layout that works on a screen can fall apart at two metres tall. Everything is built at the real dimensions, checked at real viewing distance, and proofed as a thumbnail before it goes anywhere near a printer.

/ 03

The room matches the feed

Same palette, same typeface, same energy as the brand's social work. A guest who followed the Instagram should recognise the restaurant the second they walk in.
